Oil-economy and ag-fleet wear
Bakersfield is the largest oil-producing county in California. Roustabout trucks, oilfield service vehicles, and ag-fleet pickups dominate the metro's working fleet. F-250s and Silverado HDs with 250k+ miles aren't rare. We don't penalize mileage on Bakersfield-area pickups.
Ag-economy adds another fleet layer: farm-truck pickups, irrigation-area wear, and cars hauling between fields. Dust gets into everything — air filters, AC systems, rubber seals — accelerating wear.
Central Valley heat and CA cat law
Bakersfield records 100°F+ days from May through September. AC compressors fail at year 8-10, batteries die early, dashboards crack. The drivetrain side stays normal — engines and transmissions outlive AC and electronics.
California's cat-sale law (SB 1087, 2023) is among the strictest in the country. Cars with stolen cats see offer drops $400-$700. Bakersfield cat-theft rates rose 2021-2023; we still buy.
