We’ve been buying junk cars for over a decade.

Cash Auto Salvage started in Rochester, NY in 2014 with a simple goal: pay sellers a fair offer, tow for free, and not waste anyone’s time. Twelve years and 42,000+purchases later, that’s still the goal.

What we stand for

Three things we actually mean

The junk-car industry has a reputation for the opposite of these. We've built our business on the opposite of the reputation.

Free pickup, no exceptions

Free tow within our coverage areas, regardless of distance, condition, or time of day. The number we quote is the number you get — no tow fee deductions at pickup.

Honest offers, real numbers

We pull from 42,000+ historical purchases plus current scrap-metal prices. The offer you see is the offer we pay. We don't lowball at pickup or invent reasons to drop the number.

Responsible recycling

Every car we buy gets parted out, fluids drained, batteries recycled, and the steel returned to circulation. The auto-salvage industry recycles more steel than every other industry combined.

How we got here

A short timeline

2014
Started in Rochester, NY

Cash Auto Salvage launched as a regional buyer in the Rochester, New York area. Goal: pay sellers a fair offer, tow for free, no nonsense.

2017
Expanded across the Northeast

Coverage scaled out from Western New York to neighboring states — adding Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, and the rural pockets most national buyers skipped.

2019
Nationwide partner network

Built relationships with licensed tow operators in all 50 states + D.C. — that's how we maintain free pickup nationwide without flying our own crews around.

2024
Live offer system

Launched our instant-offer system pulling from real ledger data. 90-second quotes, no callback required. The number you see is what we pay.

2026
42,000+ purchases

Crossed 42,000 vehicles purchased in our 12+ years. Working trucks pay strongest; ledger medians publicly published. Still climbing.

How the business actually works

We buy your car. Our partner tows it. The car goes to a salvage yard where it’s parted out — saleable parts (engines, transmissions, body panels) are inventoried and resold; the rest goes to scrap-metal recycling. The numbers work because the parts-and-scrap market for old cars is bigger than most people realize.

Why we can pay more than your local junk yard: we operate at scale and we don’t carry a lot of overhead. We don’t buy ads on every podcast you listen to. We don’t maintain a fleet of company-branded tow trucks. We work with licensed local tow operators on a per-pickup basis, which keeps our fixed costs down and means we can pass more of the offer to you.

The pricing reality

Average payout across our ledger is $400. Top 10% of cars pay over $1,090. That’s honest, broad data — your car’s actual offer depends on year, make, model, condition, location, and current scrap prices. A 2009 F-150 in working condition typically pays $1,200-$2,200; a 2003 Civic that won’t start usually lands $300-$600.

We don’t inflate ledger numbers, and we don’t cherry-pick the best deals to show on the homepage. The recently purchased page is pulled straight from real data, sparse rows and all.

Where we don’t go

We cover the lower 48 contiguous states + D.C. + parts of Alaska and Hawaii. Coverage in Alaska is region-specific (Anchorage and Fairbanks areas typically reachable; bush Alaska requires a call). Hawaii pickups vary by island. We don’t cover U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, USVI) — call us, but expect us to refer you elsewhere.
