The flatbed city
Almost every NYC pickup is a flatbed job, not a wheel-lift. Tight parallel parking, no driveway, sloped curb-cuts, basement garages with low ceilings — the wheel-lift truck just won't fit on most NYC streets. We send the right equipment automatically based on your address. The price stays the same whether it's a flatbed, wheel-lift, or hand-walk out of a garage; you don't pay extra for the right tool.
Practically, NYC pickup scheduling takes a slightly longer window than suburban metros. Manhattan pickups usually happen within 24-48 hours; Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island within 24. The trickier ones are basement garages in Brooklyn brownstones, garages with 90-degree ramp turns, and street pickups during alternate-side switchovers — those need a day or two of coordination but cost nothing extra.
What NYC cars look like, and what they pay
NYC cars run a different profile than suburban or rural ones. Mileage is often LOW for the age (under 100k by year 12) because the cars don't drive much — but body and electrical wear is high from constant winter salt, alternate-side parking dings, and garage humidity. Most NYC private cars are second cars: the household has a Manhattan-living, transit-using primary driver and a weekend car that finally hits a major repair quote and gets parked.
Hurricane flood damage is a real factor. Sandy in 2012 and Ida in 2021 each totaled tens of thousands of NYC-area cars; we still see flood-titled vehicles from those events on our pickup list. We buy them. The offer reflects the salvage status (typically 20-30% below clean-title equivalent) but it's a real, paying number — not a tease.
