Extreme heat and the dry-climate wear pattern
Las Vegas summers regularly push 110-115°F, sometimes higher. AC compressors, batteries, radiators, hoses, rubber seals — all fail earlier than in mild climates. AC repair quotes that exceed $2,500 are routine, and AC failure on a 10-year-old Vegas car often pushes total repair past market value.
But the dry climate is gentle on the rest of the car. Almost no rain, no salt, no humidity. Bodies look older than they should because of UV (paint fades, dashboards crack, headlights cloud), but the underlying chassis stays clean. Vegas cars with failed AC and 200k miles still have intact frames, working brake lines, and salvageable body panels — features that drive up our offer compared to salt-belt equivalents.
Transient population and the pickup mix
Vegas has one of the country's most transient populations. Tourism workers (hospitality is the dominant industry), military rotations (Nellis AFB), retiree/snowbird seasonal residents, and a steady out-of-state inflow shape what we see at pickup. Cars get bought and sold against job changes, lease ends, and relocation cycles.
Hybrids and AWD vehicles are uncommon in Vegas (no snow, no rain — minimal regional demand). Trucks and full-size SUVs are common — F-150s, Silverados, Tundras, Tahoes. Working trucks pay well here because of regional demand and the cross-state market (some cars eventually move to surrounding states).
